What are the various classes of travel available in Tatkal?

Tatkal bookings are allowed in all classes except First AC.

  1. Can I select ladies or general quota along with tatkal quota?

Ladies and general quota cannot be opted for along with Tatkal quota.

  1. How can I use the internet reservation facility to book Tatkal quota?

You have to select the Tatkal check box in the 'Plan my travel' page along with other details for booking tatkal ticket. For some trains/class/locations Tatkal quota may not be available .Please check the availability before proceeding further

  1. What are the concessions available in Tatkal scheme?

No concession is allowed in Tatkal Booking.

  1. How much extra should I pay for my tatkal ticket?

The new tatkal charges are at the rate of 10 per cent of basic fare for second class and 30 per cent of basic fare for all other classes subject to minimum and maximum charges for each class. For detail of class wise minimum and Maximum tatkal charges click HERE

  1. When I can book a tatkal e-ticket?

Tatkal booking opens at 10 AM for AC class and at 11 AM for non AC class on one day in advance actual date of journey excluding date of journey , e.g. for train leaving on 6th from Originate station, Tatkal Booking will Commence at 10 AM for AC Class and at 11 AM for Non AC Class on 5th irrespective of intermediate station reaching date. For Example if you wish to book between Katpadi to Pune in 16382 for journey on 5th the Tatkal booking will start for Katpadi to Pune on 3rd as this train originate from Cape on 4th

  1. Can I book tatkal ticket from all locations?

Tatkal tickets will be issued for actual distance of travel instead of end-to-end, subject to the distance restriction applicable to the train. The same Tatkal berth/seat may be booked in multiple legs till preparation of charts. At the time of preparation of charts, unutilized portion may be released to the General RAC/Waiting list passengers.

  1. Can I book tatkal I-ticket to all places of delivery provided in irctc site?

No, You can not book Tatkal I-Ticket as per the new rules

  1. What are the rules for cancellation?

No refund on confirmed Tatkal tickets. waitlisted Tatkal ticket cancellations,charges will be deducted as per existing Railway rules.

  1. How do I apply for student concession?

The Student Concession tickets are permitted only in Sleeper Class (SL) and 2nd Sitting (2S)I tickets. Only I-tickets can be exchanged with student concession by presenting the I-ticket and the valid student concession order to the nearest Railway Reservation Office By going to the reservation office along with his journey cum reservation ticket and a request for exchanging the same with the student concession. He will surrender his original fully paid ticket and a student concession ticket with the revised fare (with same seat/berth number status) shall be issued to him. The difference of fare (paid and payable) less the clerk age charge of Rs. 20/- shall be refunded and shall be credited to his account electronically on the next day by IRCTC on receipt of refund file from the Railways.

  1. Is student concession applicable for both E/I tickets?

The Student Concession tickets are permitted only in I-Ticket Sleeper Class (SL) and 2nd Sitting (2S). Presently it is not permitted in e-tickets.

  1. How will I be refunded the difference of fare paid extra with respect to student concession?

The difference of fare (paid and payable) less the clerk age charge of Rs. 20/- shall be refunded and shall be credited to his account electronically on the next day by IRCTC on receipt of refund file from the Railways.
